“Passion Indochine” to open in Paris

Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia cultural and tourism festival entitled “Passion Indochine” will be held in Paris, France, on September 30-October 1.



The festival is being organized by Vietnam Airlines under the sponsorship of the Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian embassies.
Le Dung, director of the Vietnam Airlines representative office in Europe, said the event aims to promote culture and tourism in the three countries in the Vietnam Airlines flight network, especially since it plans to open a direct route to London.
Dung said that Vietnam has great tourism potential which will be diversified if it can work together with Laos and Cambodia to tap the tourism potential of all the countries.
The festival will be divided into three sections: one to introduce the World Heritage sites in the three countries, another presenting their special cuisines, and one for cultural performances to attract more French and European visitors to the region.

Tien Giang to host first Vietnam Fruit Festival

The first Vietnam Fruit Festival, organised by People's Committee of Tien Giang Province, will run from April 19 to 24.

Tien Giang to host first Vietnam fruit festival"Under the theme 'Vietnam's Fruit in a Time of Integration', the festival organising board wants to show off the diversification and richness of fruit in Vietnam to local and foreign friends and tourists," said Tran The Ngoc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tien Giang Province.

"The festival will be a chance to honour farmers, scientists, entrepreneurs and companies for their contribution to the development of fruit in Vietnam," Ngoc said.

More than 700 kiosks and art shows will display fruit products from around the country.
Aside from a number of events, there will be a scientific seminar on fruit market.
Vietnamese fruits are sold in 50 countries.

In the South, fruit is grown on 280,000ha – nearly 70% of the total fruit-farming area in the country.

Bac Ninh Festival 2010 to be organised at national level

The Bac Ninh Festival 2010 will be held at the national level at the Kinh Bac cultural centre, said Nguyen Dang Tuc, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on April 1. Party and State leaders, representatives from ministries, agencies, embassies and Ly clan representatives from the Republic of Korea will attend the opening ceremony on April 17.

The five-day festival will feature a ceremony to mark the Quan Ho singing’s recognition by UNESCO as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Other highlights of the festival will include the 20th annual Quan Ho singing contest as well as wrestling, badminton and other games.  A trade fair, exhibitions of cultural artifacts, paintings, sculptures and photos and other activities to mark the 35th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relation will be held during the festival.

Halong Tourism Festival to kick off next month

The Halong Tourism Festival 2010 will take place in the northern border province of Quang Ninh from April 29 to May 2. Visitors to the event will have an opportunity to participate in various activities, such as a beauty pageant, a photo exhibition of Halong Bay, a concert, boat-racing, a music performance and fireworks display.

Currently, Quang Ninh Province is completing preparatory work for the festival in many resort areas, such as Bay Chay Beach and Mong Cai border gate. The province has invested nearly VND40 billion to build a large stage at Bay Chay Beach as a major venue for the opening ceremony of the festival.
Halong Bay has been twice recognised by UNESCO as the World Heritage for its natural beauty and geology.

Hue Festival 2010 to have underwater stage

A dancing play entitled “The Breath of Water” will be performed for the first time on a 1500sq.m underwater stage at the upcoming Hue Festival 2010.


The play tells a romantic love story about the separation and reunion of boys and girls in the dynastic era. Young talents like Linh Nga, Quynh Lien and Xuan Chien will play the leading roles.

Tinh Tam Lake is among 20 landscapes of the Nguyen dynasty in the former capital city of Hue. The Hue Festival 2010 will take place from June 5-13, drawing over 30 art troupes from 25 countries. more>>

Hanoi Sound Stuff to go on stage this month



As many as 80 artists from 16 countries and territories around the world are expected to participate in the Hanoi Sound Stuff Festival 2010, which will take place from March 26-28.

Entitled “Green space”, the festival will be co-organised by the Vietnam National Academy of Music and the Culture Production and Development Company M.A.M, in the lead up to the millennial anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

Musician Tri Minh, a representative of the organizing board, said at a March 12 press briefing that this is the third festival of its kind to be held in Vietnam, with the participation of a larger number of Vietnamese and foreign artists. more on Hanoi News>>
